Is faith, even with absolute conviction, the ultimate triumph of stupidity over reason?

If a person has faith they can fly, and I mean total and complete belief, will it stop them going splat when they leap off a high building? Nobody believes in a god from birth, they must be taught to believe. If you are taught to believe something, aren't you actually just accepting & parroting what you were told by someone else?
